As every year, you are most welcome to celebrate with us in the city centre. We will fill St Martin Street with music, street animations, colourful features, characters and decorations. There will no shortage of charity events, handicrafts and St Martin’s croissants. For several years now, our motto has been “Do Good”, as we are inspired by St Martin, patron saint of the day and the main street of Poznań, known for his gesture of sharing his cloak with a person in need. This act lies at the core St. Martin’s values: pride in local identity and heritage, respect for diversity, care for those who need help, building common grounds and concern for one’s surroundings.
As usual on Street Name Day, numerous vendors will open their stalls at the St. Martin’s Fair. The traditional croissant will, of course, play the starring role! This sweet pastry is a symbol of sharing goodness with others in Poznań. In the past, it was distributed to less affluent residents, today it accompanies family gatherings or, well wrapped for safety, often travels far beyond Poznań, carrying the taste and the idea of community. Perhaps this is why it can be a simple sign of goodness that brings people together.
Given that November 11th marks Polish Independence Day, remember that sharing—whether it is time, attention or kindness—as well as openness to others are a solid foundation of modern-day patriotism.

For over three decades, the Street Name Day has assumed various forms. It began at the Castle, mainly gathering the local community. During the pandemic, it was celebrated only symbolically, with flags mounted along the street. During the renovation works in St Martin, it was held alternative locations: in Kolegiacki Square and under the Alfa buildings.
This November, we are going to see another change. Each year, more and more people come to celebrate the Name Day and, although we are very happy to see you all there, we must ensure that everyone is safe. As we feel it is our responsibility and have also received such a request from the police, we are going to secure the event area with fences and apply the rules applicable to mass events. So, join us at Adam Mickiewicz Square, the intersection of Niepodległości Avenue, in St Martin Street, and in front of ZAMEK Culture Centre.
The programme will follow the format of the previous years. You will be able to take part in cultural activities, listen to live concerts and enjoy the croissants at the fair.
There is some novelty too, with large-scale figures and objects known from the parade. Like a few years ago, Bamberka, Pegaz and Koziołki will be on stationary display—within easy reach of your hand and camera—but enlivened with theatrical and musical activities.
We sincerely hope that the event in its new form will still inspire people to celebrate the values of St Martin, at the family table and when meeting other people, both in person and in the virtual space.
