Czym tak naprawdę był Bauhaus? Radykalną artystyczną utopią, czy raczej ruchem, który wciąż wpływa na nasze życie i otaczający świat? Film przedstawia fascynującą historię powstałego 100 lat temu innowacyjnego nurtu w sztuce, a także wyrosłe z niego współczesne społeczne i artystyczne projekty. Mimo upływu lat, nadal silnie się z nim wiążą, bo Bauhaus okazuje się dziś ważniejszy niż kiedykolwiek wcześniej. Nie chodziło w nim przecież nigdy o sam proces twórczy, o sztukę dla sztuki. Forma miała wynikać z funkcji, a najbardziej liczyło się ulepszanie świata właśnie za pomocą sztuki i architektury – łączenie w jedno artyzmu, rzemiosła i technologii.

What was Bauhaus, really? A radical artistic utopia or a movement which still exerts its influence on our lives and the world around? The film shows the fascinating history of the innovative current in art which developed a century ago, as well as the contemporary social and artistic projects rooted in Bauhaus. Despite the decades which have elapsed since, the link is strong, as Bauhaus proves more relevant today than ever before. After all, it was not about the creative process itself, nor about art for art’s sake. The form was to derive from function, while the thing which mattered the most was to improve the world through art and architecture –  by fusing art, craft, and technology.

Architektura dotyczy i dotyka nas wszystkich. Dziś znakomita większość mieszkańców Ziemi żyje w miastach, a trudno wyobrazić sobie te ostatnie bez pracy architektów. Majestatyczne gmachy publiczne, spektakularne i skromne projekty mieszkaniowe, wielkie i małe realizacje w przestrzeni miejskiej − bogactwo tej najpowszechniejszej ze sztuk wydaje się niezmierzone. Dlatego zajrzyjcie z nami do wnętrza architektury − zbadamy kondycję idei słynnego Bauhausu w 100-lecie powstania szkoły (Duch Bauhausu), poznamy funkcjonowanie gmachu znanej instytucji (Opera paryska), a także przyjrzyjmy się blaskom i cieniom życia w nowoczesnym zabytku, jakim jest Jednostka Marsylska (Babcia i Le Corbusier).
